Coffee Culture: Fomo Coffee, Taipei

Diana

Just before I flew halfway across the globe to explore the sweltering streets of Taipei, a friend had warned me that I was about to discover the world’s best coffee scene. As a Londoner spoiled for choice when it came to single origin, third-wave coffee brewers all over the city, my scepticism remained high until I walked past FOMO Coffee.

Just off Da’an Road, FOMO Coffee is a somewhat recent addition to Taipei’s burgeoning coffee scene. But it seems to follow the same recipe for success that we found throughout the city: quiet residential alley, eye-catching interior design and a coffee brewing savoir-faire that would amaze a Columbian person.

Their menu offers not only the single origin you would expect but also a selection of speciality lattes – like Brown Sugar Latte or a Baileys Latte – and milk-based drinks like hot chocolate, chai or honey milk.

With a pristine white interior, large glass window and the enormous black ampersand logo, FOMO was made for the minimalist aesthete. And while the cafe has a limited seating area, the long wooden bench outside makes up for it if you can withstand the hot weather.

What to order

Unless you enjoy drinking hot coffee in tropical conditions, an iced latte is the best option. Like most places in Taipei, FOMO doesn’t stock non-dairy milk (a surprise since fresh Soy milk is ubiquitous) so the options are limited to black coffee: Espressos, Americanos or Blend cold brews.
