The first time I heard the Catalan word for "thank you" I wondered why I was being addressed in French. It was only after a few days that I realised that Catalan shares more traits with French than the Iberian languages — Spanish and Portuguese.
Last spring we travelled to Costa Brava, the coastal region of northeastern Spain famous for it's secluded beaches, before enjoying a few days in sunny Barcelona. Conciliating a rich and diverse city life with a relaxed pace, Spain's second largest city, continues to be a source of pride for its residents.
As for its visitants, all we can say merci.
