Coffee Culture: Café+ KUBRICK — Kowloon, Hong Kong

Coffee Culture: Café+ KUBRICK — Kowloon, Hong Kong

‘Sorry! No WIFI here… this is a place for chatting, reading and drinking coffee’ read the sign on the door. I smirked. For Hong Kong, a city that sees most of its inhabitants never looking away from their phones, Café+ KUBRICK felt like a haven for those in search of a simpler life.

The ample open space is at the same time a café, bookstore and exhibition place, and shares the building of the eclectic Broadway Cinematheque, making it a cultural oasis in the already diverse neighbourhood of Yau Ma Tei.

As the people in the tables next to me come and go, I start to realise that it is easy to lose track of time at KUBRICK. The well-made coffee, beautifully curated selection of multi-lingual magazines and the cosy atmosphere, feel like a home away from home. It has gone dark outside, and I look at the clock. There is still time for another coffee.

What to order

Kubrick’s speciality is without a doubt coffee. And while they serve the usual cappuccinos and lattes, their flavoured coffee (in hazelnut, caramel or almond) are an unusual yet delicious option. They also have rice milk which is a huge plus.
